Don’t worry, there are plenty of people out there with the same feelings as you, including me! I will be your guide for home décor, just follow these tips and you’ll be sure to have a stylish spot (with little added stress), in no time!

1. Add a Fresh Coat of Paint: When your space is looking dingy, a lot of the times it’s because of the state of the walls. We often neglect to take care of our walls because well, no one really thinks to! Over time, the paint cracks, fades, and ends up not looking its best. To add some life and brightness to your home, consider adding fresh paint to your walls! This could be in the same existing color or a new one, but regardless, a new paint job will give your space a fresh feeling that you desire. Additionally, you could paint different pieces in your home, like cabinets, tables, picture frames, etc. Inna of Jiji-Blog writes, “If you have come across a mirror, picture frame, or other interior design items that you fell in love with, but it doesn’t match the color of your wallpaper, you can effortlessly paint the item to give it the desired color. The solution is a can of spray paint that is super affordable and is a pleasure to use.”

2. Don’t Underestimate a Good Area Rug: Like walls, floors are another aspect of our space that are often forgotten about. With frequent travel in and out of the home, floors can get scratched, worn, and scuffed, which can make your space look old and dingy. To liven up your flooring and add some flair to your space. You can get a rug that has a fun print, like zebra or leopard, lots of colors, and different textures. Additionally, experiment with sizes as well to add dimension to your space.

3. Let There Be Light: Taking advantage of natural light is a great way to open up any space in general. Kelly Weimert of The Spruce affirms this stating, “natural light has a knack for making any space feel more open and airy, so maximize yours as much as possible.” Additionally, when decorating your home, place a mirror, whatever size of your choice, in front of a window. Doing this will reflect the outside, making your space look bigger while also reflecting the sunshine to add brightness to your space and boost your mood.

4. Embrace Your Green Thumb:  One way to breathe life into your home is to put different kinds of plants throughout your kitchen, bedroom and living room areas! Not only are plants a beautiful decorative piece, but they also give your place that fresh vibe. According to Silvia C.of Daily Dream Décor, “[plants] help your home get more oxygen; they bring a happy mood into any space and help increase your work productivity.” If you don’t think you have the ability to delicately look after plants, succulents are a great alternative. Not only are succulents inexpensive, but they are also super easy to take care of, even if you do forget about them for awhile!

5. Add Texture: Most people like to keep decorating simple but you can give your home a completely new look by adding pieces with different textures throughout your space. The addition of textures can give your place dimension and look aesthetically pleasing. Elizabeth Seward of Apartment Therapy suggests, “Play around with various fabric textures—faux fur, velvet, linen—as well as other tones and finishes—wood, metal, tile, glass. You might be surprised how far variety can take you.” Channel your creative side and have fun with selecting different decorative pieces!
