Tips for Disney World’s Rise of the Resistance ride

By Alexis Sanchez on February 6, 2020

So, I recently got to amazingly experience Disney’s Rise of the Resistance ride in Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Orlando, Fl on Saturday, February 2, 2020. (Don’t worry, I will delve more into the actual ride in the next article.) It was a process but not entirely impossible. However, it can seem impossible if you do not know all the different steps you have to follow and the steps you should follow to increase your chances of going on the ride. Therefore, here are some tips for Disney world’s Rise of the Resistance ride.

1. Get to Hollywood Studios around 6:30am

Okay, I know it sounds ridiculous and way too early but getting there early not only lets you get into the park without fighting a crowd, but also helps calm your anxiety about the fact that you just woke up super early to potentially not get on the ride queue. Since I am not a morning person, staying at a hotel about 10 minutes away was ideal and my partner and I were parked by 6:39am. There will be a mix of people taking their sweet time and people bolting past you, I suggest a brisk walk but don’t break a sweat over it. I was person checked and ticket checked into the park by 6:48am, which left plenty of time to try to find a spot where there weren’t packs of people (which leads to my next point)

2. Find a spot a little ways away from crowds

This is more of a personal preference but being inside a crowd of people that are all trying to get into a quickly full queue for a new ride is not enjoyable at all. We walked to a nearby popcorn cart past the first Starbucks when you walk into the park which was less crowded than the front of the park. It was also drizzling when we first got there so everyone was trying to seek coverings and the indoors, but we brought rain jackets and got to avoid the crowds that way too. Life hack: when in Florida, always bring a rain jacket!

3. If you’re with a group, then make sure everyone has the My Disney Experience app

Since there’s a rush of people using the My Disney Experience app trying to get on the ride, there are bound to be technological issues. It’ll help to have multiple people on the app just in case someone’s app crashes, then someone else can try to get on the app. Make sure that when you go on the My Disney Experience app, you click the “Find out more” button under the Rise of the Resistance section so you can see the boarding information.

4. Try to get into the My Disney Experience app as close to 7am as possible

Don’t keep opening the app and then closing it just in case Disney opens up the queue early. Disney hasn’t opened up the virtual queue before Hollywood Studios opens (7am) since the ride opened back on December 5, 2019, and I don’t see that changing anytime soon. All you need to do is to make sure that you are checked into Disney and on your My Disney Experience app by 7am and you’re on the same boat as everyone else.

Look out for my next article where I talk about my experience on the Rise of the Resistance ride, which had to be its own article to do it justice. Sneak peek: it’s one of the best rides I’ve ever been on in any of the Disney parks!
