If you are lucky enough to have a balcony attached to your house or apartment, then I am extremely jealous because that luxury is very hard to find. That being said, if you have this privilege, please make sure you do something fun with your balcony and don’t just set up two mismatching lawn chairs that you found on the street. You may not know where to start, but that’s okay because, even though I may not have a balcony of my own, I know a thing or two about decorating ideas to implement. I promise you I’m not going to ask you to put a whole design team together, these decorating ideas are easy to put in place and will take your balcony from drab to fab (I hate myself for saying that rhyme, but just keep reading)!

Fun Chairs

Now, I know I said above not to get gross lawn chairs from the street, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t have a seat or two so you can bring out your book and a cup of coffee in the morning when the temperature outside is just right. Depending on the size of the balcony, you may not have room for big chairs, but seating doesn’t need to be big to be cute or functional. Woven chairs, a wooden bench, or fabric-fronted beach-like lounge chairs are all wonderful choices. What you choose depends on the amount of space you have, the number of people you live with, and how much you are planning to use your balcony. If you have a lot of extra space, maybe even hang up a hammock so that you can relax and soak up the sun a bit!

Hanging Plants/Succulents

Balconies don’t always have room for tables on top of chairs, but you want your space to have a little bit of foliage to brighten things up! Succulents, flowers, plants, or even fake plants are beautiful additions to your balcony because it gives your balcony some additional brightness and freshness. If you are really into nature, cover the ceiling of your balcony with hung up plants and every time you step outside you will feel like you are in the Amazon and you can have a few minutes to escape and breathe. If you don’t want too many, hang a few above the chair you choose to sit on, or a couple in each corner of the balcony. If you opt for real plants, make sure you water and take care of them so they last a while!

Accent Pillows and Blankets

It may not be your living room, but your outdoor space could always use a pop of color, especially since most outdoor furniture is wooden or woven brown and grey colors. To color-up your space a bit, buy one light-weight blanket and some colorful pillows. If you have wooden furniture, you can use tapestries and blankets to make the wooden furniture look upholstered a bit! If you don’t want to splurge on tapestries and blankets, buy some fabric and use some double-sided tape to attach it to the furniture so it doesn’t slip off. If that isn’t DIY I don’t know what is! Double-sided tape and Joann Fabrics is really all you need to spice up your patio a bit! If you want to go the extra mile, you can even get an outdoor rug or an outdoor mat where the door is that is either patterned or has a cute saying on it to tie everything together!

Now get shopping, get thinking, and then make your dream patio into a reality! Make the most of every inch of the space you’re given. Make sure your organized and start with the bottom of the patio (the ground) and work your way up (the ceiling aka where you probably will hang the plants and/or succulents). Before you start decorating, make a plan so that you aren’t taking more time to set up the patio than you actually need to.

So, what are you waiting for? Look up some inspiration from Pinterest, Google, Instagram, Facebook, or wherever! Think up some ideas and don’t purchase anything until you have some sort of vision in mind so no money, furniture, nor decorations go to waste! Don’t be afraid of little table decorations, accent pieces, etc.; you won’t clutter up your patio or anything, just decorate in a way that speaks to you! Good luck and happy decorating; embrace your inner interior designer and get going!
