The most typical winter color scheme to decorate your apartment with is the traditional Christmastime red and green. Are you thinking of candy canes and pine trees? So am I.
These seven apartment color schemes can help you combat your winter blues. If you feel like being a bit more spontaneous with your home interior designing, branch out and try these suggestions, or gain a bit more confidence in mixing solid base colors with unique patterns, styles, accents, and tones!
Light tones can help brighten your home on cold, dark days. If you want to create a cheerful environment in your living room, using yellow as a base color should be your top choice. If you’re not willing to go with a canary yellow, browse through the yellow spectrum and pick out your favorite shade.
Two common yet versatile variations of yellow are mustard and cream. Mustard-yellow throw pillows and a matching blanket over a brown or white couch can cozy up the living room. A cream-colored flower vase can hold any multi-color flower arrangement as a table centerpiece. Pastel yellow accents work really well in the kitchen, too.
Keeping with the lighter color concepts, rose gold has gained popularity over the last few years. Most commonly paired with a gray-and-white chevron pattern, the brassy color can add a chic, striking touch to your home.
The shiny material can be paired with light grays and whites to illuminate a room. If you want to try a minimal look, a rose-golden clock hanging above a black dining room table can convey luxury without overdoing it.
Sandy Beach Brown
You know that warm, brownish hue that beach sand has? That’s my favorite color.
It is hard to mess up any color combinations that include brown. However, you do not want to pile on too many different shades. A dark wooden dining room table can be decorated with a sandy brown table cover or tan placemats.
I currently have a small brown rug under my coffee table in the living room. Although the living room is covered with beige carpeting and tan walls, the patterned brown is a nice contrast to the single-colored floor. (It also keeps a clean spot to refer to when vacuuming or deep-cleaning the carpet.)
Deep Blue Sea
If you want to venture into darker tones, navy is your go-to color. Dark blue tones not only keep a room looking minimal but also create a relaxing, serene environment. Warning: the contrast of the dark shade interior to a white wonderland outside may cause lazy days and hibernation.
Any navy blue couch or recliner automatically creates a bachelor pad vibe in your living room. Add some white or gray pillows to contrast with the dark material. Hang a couple of abstract paintings on the wall to cover blank space and modernize the room.
Pairing green accents with light-colored furniture can make even the gloomiest day seem bright and cheerful. If you want to incorporate the traditional color without accentuating the holiday theme, try finding curtains in an olive or moss green shade. These shades can be more commonly associated with plants so it’ll help you feel like you’re in a warmer climate.
Green candles that release an earthy scent can transport you to a camping memory or remind you of a freshly cut lawn. Curtains that color your bedroom a green shade when the sunlight bounces off just right will help you momentarily forget there’s a snow storm predicted later in the week.
Gray is the New Black
If you have black furniture in your bedroom, you can always tone down the dark staple pieces with lighter variations of black. Gray curtains allow for sunlight to permeate your bedroom while still keeping a chilled atmosphere.
If you’d like a more masculine style, try to incorporate chrome pieces as opposed to rose-gold accents. Silver and chrome always pair well with black and white couches. Chrome-framed mirrors and silver lamps will produce a sleek, clean setting in any room of your home.
If you’d like to bring the snowy look into your home, white pillows and rugs always add a luminescent touch to any room. To keep the style of the room tidy and classy, stick to neutral-colored furniture and decor.
To remind myself to keep a clean restroom, I always have a white candle burning and white towels hanging on the towel rack. A sheer white shower curtain prevents a wet mess on the floor, brightens the bath tub, and helps me see through the soap falling into my eyes.
If you’d like to try out other colors as your base colors, orange sunset shades and lilac tones can be a fun challenge to take on. In essence, you want to be comfortable in your home and appreciate how just a few touches can bring a room together. Have fun with it — don’t be afraid to explore your personal aesthetic and try something new.
